New Ministry of Law and Order set up

A new ministry to be known as the Ministry of Law and Order had been set up under President Mahinda Rajapaksa in keeping with the recommendations of the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC), informed sources said. Major General Nanda Mallawarachchi had been appointed as the Ministry Secretary. He was formerly an Ambassador to Indonesia and the Chief of Defence of staff. The new Ministry is in addition to Ministry of Defence and Urban Development, a portfolio held by President with Gotabaya Rajapaksa as the Secretary.
