Hemaka appointed new Chairman of SL Insurance Corporation

Respected business leader and longstanding Chairman of Singer (Sri Lanka) Plc Hemaka Amarasuriya has been appointed Chairman of Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation Ltd. with effect from 13 February 2015. Amarasuriya is one of the leading personalities in the corporate circle of Sri Lanka. He currently holds the position of Chairman of the Singer Group of Companies. Amarasuriya also holds directorships in many public quoted and non-listed companies.

His vast experience spans a spectrum of diverse fields. He held the Chairmanship of NDB Bank Plc, NDB Capital Bangladesh, Commercial Leasing, First Capital & Eagle NDB Insurance. Furthermore, he served as the Chairman of the Singer Business Council Worldwide and the Employers’ Federation of Ceylon. He was a former Senior Vice President of Retail Holdings Ltd. (Parent of Singer Asia Ltd.). Amarasuriya was also the founder president of the Industrial Association of Sri Lanka. He served on the Presidential Task Force on Science and Technology, on the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Advisory Committee on Company Law at different times. He is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka, the Institute of Management Accountants – UK and is a certified Global Management Accountant. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Instituted of Marketing - UK. He also holds a Diploma in Marketing Management and Strategy from New York University in the US. He was the founder president of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (Sri Lanka). His contribution to the field of Marketing was endorsed at the Asia Retail Congress, where he was bestowed with the prestigious Retail Leadership Award for retailing in Asia and an award by the Chartered Institute of Marketing (UK) for his visionary leadership in recognition of the revolutionary changes that he introduced to Asian consumer markets.
