Hayleys to grow further in hospitality

With a total of 550 rooms in its portfolio, Hayleys Plc is now looking at expanding its footprint in the hospitality market. According to The Kingsbury Head of Marketing and Sales Denesh Silva, areas such as Wadduwa and Trincomalee have been earmarked for new properties in the coming years. “We have land in Wadduwa and Trincomalee in our land banks. We will definitely invest in more properties in the coming years,” he said. Involved in the ownership and management of city hotels and high-end niche market resorts, the hotel division of Hayleys Plc has also invested in several hotels in partnership with other leading hotel chains in Sri Lanka. The Group invested Rs. 2.4 billion in completing The Kingsbury, which is now fully operational with 229 rooms and eight restaurants, of which the latest, ‘Score’ – a sports bar – was launched earlier this month. Hayleys’ acquisition of Amaya Leisure has brought six additional properties to the company portfolio.  “In time to come, Amaya may become a fully fledged operation in terms of good locations in Sri Lanka and overseas.” Currently, Hayleys Hotels manage Amaya Lake – Dambulla, Amaya Hills and Hunas Falls by Amaya in Kandy, the boutique hotel Langdale by Amaya in Nuwara Eliya and Coral Rock by Amaya – Hikkaduwa, in addition to the The Kingsbury. “In the past, we invested heavily in our properties to keep up with trends in accommodation.”
