Thanks to Georges Hobeika, Sri Lanka now has its very own couture Kandyan saree. The saree which is said to be magenta in colour has intricate designs made out of 24 carat gold and swarovski crystals.

It would be worn by none other than the First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa at today’s show. The saree, the colours and designs have been inspired by the colours and tradition of Sri Lanka, Hobeika said, “It is inspired by your beautiful country and is stunning. We gave it to the First Lady on Monday and she absolutely adored it.”

“I loved making it because this was something totally new to us as we have never seen a saree before,” he said.
