The Kesbewa Magistrate’s Court has ordered to suspend the disposal of garbage collected by the Colombo Municipal Council at the Karadiyana Waste Management Facility in Piliyandala with effect from 29 April.
The court had previously declared that 350 metric tonnes of garbage be allowed to be disposed at the site per day from 17 to 28 April.
However, as municipal authorities had not requested the court to extend this time period, the court declared that disposing waste at the facility would be allowed only for today, after which process will be halted.
