December inflation rate slows to 22-month low of 4.7%

Reuters: Sri Lanka’s annual inflation rate in December eased to a 22-month low of 4.7%, from 5.6% in November, the Department of Census and Statistics said on Tuesday. Annual average inflation, measured on a 12-month moving basis, edged down to a 13-month low of 6.9% in December, from 7.3% a month earlier. In May, it hit a record high of 8.8%. Core annual inflation, which excludes fresh food, energy, transport, rice and coconuts, eased to a record low of 2.1% compared with 2.4% a month ago, according to the new consumer price index introduced in mid-2011.
