Budget second reading passed

The parliament passed the second reading of the 2011 Budget yesterday with a majority of 104 votes.

The budget proposals received 150 votes in favour while 46 voted against it.



The main opposition United National Party (UNP) and the Marxist Democratic National Alliance (DNA) had earlier announced that they would vote against the budget.

The Committee Stage of the budget will commence today and continue till 10 December.
