In response to the Daily FT article yesterday with reference to good governance activist Chandra Jayaratne’s article reference to a gaming lounge operated at a five star hotel as part of 31st night festivities, Bally’s General Manager said there was no competitive or cash-involving gaming activity involved as alleged or depicted. “We know the rules and regulations and our gaming activity is confined to Bally’s. We provided two old discarded tables to the organisers of the event to be used for a fun competition/draw involving coupons and gifts as part of the evening’s activities for guests of the hotel. There was no gaming activity or cash involved either,” the General Manager said. In his letter, Jayaratne with reference to a Daily FT article along with pictures of the five star’s 31st night festivities published on 3 January 2013, inquired from Ministers Basil Rajapaksa and Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena as per casino business regulations Act and Betting and Gaming Levy Act whether private or public places were permitted for occasional or regular operation of a gaming lounge by a licensed casino operator.
