WindForce PLC has secured its 13th grid-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project, with the award of a 10 MW/40 MWh facility in Panadura under Sri Lanka’s inaugural national BESS procurement program.
The company said it received the Letter of Award on 20 March 2026, marking the latest addition to its expanding energy storage portfolio. The Panadura project will be developed as a standalone BESS facility under a Build-Own-Operate (BOO) model, consistent with the structure adopted for its previously secured projects.
The project will operate under a 15-year contract, aimed at supporting peak-demand management and enhancing grid reliability, while contributing to long-term operational stability of the power system.
WindForce said the total investment for the project is estimated at Rs. 1.73 billion, structured on an 80:20 debt-to-equity financing model. The company will hold a 100% stake in the project.
With this award, WindForce’s cumulative portfolio under the national BESS program increases to 13 standalone projects, reinforcing its presence in Sri Lanka’s energy storage segment as the country moves towards integrating more renewable energy into the grid.
The company stated it will continue to focus on maintaining technical, environmental, and operational standards throughout project development, while working with stakeholders to deliver infrastructure aligned with national energy objectives.
