Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera announced yesterday that the weekly fuel quota issued via the National Fuel Pass QR system will be increased for all vehicles from next month.

Taking to Twitter, he revealed that the current quota will be increased alongside the fuel price revision scheduled to take place in June.

The decision to this effect was taken following a Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) review meeting on cargo distribution plans and finances held on Thursday (25) with the marketing, finance and commercial divisions.

On 4 April, fuel quotas were initially revised upward after many months given the Sinhala and Tamil New Year. Accordingly, the quota for three-wheelers was increased from 5 - 8 litres, motorcycles from 4 - 7 litres, buses from 40 - 60 litres, cars from 20 - 30 litres, land vehicles from 15 - 25 litres, lorries from 50 - 75 litres, quadric cycles from 4 - 6 litres, special purpose vehicles from 20 - 30 litres and vans from 20 - 30 litres.

Although the plan was to revise the said quotas to their original amounts on 18 April, the Ministry later decided to maintain the increased quotas as world oil prices fell sharply.
