Sanjiva Weerawarana
WSO2 yesterday announced that its Founder and Chief Executive Officer Sanjiva Weerawarana will step down from his role as CEO with effect from June 2026.
In August 2024, Weerawarana and other shareholders divested their stakes in WSO2 to private equity giant EQT at a valuation of $ 600 million, reported at six-time revenue at the time.
The WSO2 Board of Directors has initiated a search for a permanent CEO and has appointed WSO2 Chief Revenue Officer Devaka Randeniya as Acting CEO to lead the company during the transition period.
“We are grateful to Sanjiva for his vision and leadership in building WSO2 into a globally recognised technology company,” said Board Chairman Jonas Persson. “With a strong leadership team, a clear strategy, and growing demand for our platform, WSO2 is well positioned to continue its momentum. The Board is focused on ensuring a smooth transition and identifying the right leader for the company’s next phase.”
“It has been an incredible journey building WSO2 over the past two decades,” said Weerawarana. “I am proud of what we’ve accomplished and confident in the team and strategy driving the company forward. WSO2’s role in enabling the next generation of Artificial Intelligence (AI)-driven, agent-based digital experiences is only just beginning.”
WSO2 continues to see strong demand for its platform as enterprises seek to securely integrate, manage, and govern increasingly complex digital interactions, including emerging AI agents. The company remains focused on advancing its strategy to serve as the control plane for these interactions, helping organisations move faster while maintaining visibility, control, and sovereignty in how data, identities, and AI-driven processes are managed across environments.
Weerawarana will join WSO2 Executives at WSO2Con North America 2026, its upcoming user conference in Austin, Texas next week, where the leadership team will present the company’s latest innovations and future direction.
