In line with the Government’s long-term strategy to generate 70% of the country’s electricity from renewable sources by 2030, the Cabinet of Ministers on Wednesday approved awarding the contracts for the Mullikulum Wind Power Project, totalling 100 MW to two entities — a consortium of Vidullanka PLC and David Pieris Motor Company (Lanka) Ltd., and WindForce PLC.
The project consists of two 50 MW wind power stations, to be built, owned, and operated (BOO) with a 20-year monitoring period.
The move follows a competitive international bidding process, during which seven proposals were submitted by prospective developers.
“Based on the recommendations of a negotiation committee appointed by the Cabinet, contracts were awarded to two entities—a consortium of Vidullanka PLC and David Pieris Motor Company (Lanka) Ltd., and WindForce PLC,” Cabinet Spokesman and Health Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said at the weekly post-Cabinet meeting media briefing on Thursday.
He noted that the project represents a significant step in advancing Sri Lanka’s renewable energy goals, strengthening energy security, and attracting private sector participation in the country’s sustainable power generation initiatives.
The proposal to this effect was submitted by Energy Minister Kumara Jayakody.
