Vasabha Bulathsinhala

Agility Innovation Group has named Vasabha Bulathsinhala as its new Group Chief Executive Officer, marking a carefully planned leadership transition at a pivotal moment in the Group's growth journey.

Having held several local and regional leadership positions with a global telco giant over the last two decades, Bulathsinhala returned to Sri Lanka in 2025 to take on Agility Group’s Chief Operating Officer role. His elevation to CEO comes as part of a planned leadership transition, building on a strong legacy of strategic acquisitions and expansion that has positioned Agility Group as a key contributor to Sri Lanka’s digitisation journey over the past three decades.

Group Chairman Ajit Gunewardene said: “Vasabha was pursued by the Board for a long time, to leave a Fortune 500 Company and take on the role of Group CEO at Agility. In less than a year, he proved himself beyond doubt to the Group’s independent Board that he will be our future, for maintaining our values and culture while transforming the Group over a short time to take us through to the next phase of growth."

We have no doubt that he will take good care of our loyal and faithful customers, suppliers, and most importantly, our team.”

“We operate in a market that is constantly changing. But with this comes opportunity. The Government’s Digital Sri Lanka initiative represents a significant moment for the country and for us. As Sri Lanka moves deeper into the digital realm, we are well-positioned to play a meaningful role—and we must do so with focus, credibility, and execution excellence,” he added.

Bulathsinhala said: “When I joined Agility in January 2025 as Chief Operating Officer, it was a deliberate choice driven by vision and conviction. Sri Lanka is on the cusp of a major digital transformation, and I saw Agility as the perfect catalyst to drive this change. With its diverse portfolio, a team of 600+ exceptional professionals, and – most importantly – an independent Board of Directors whose foresight, integrity, and passion for innovation inspire progress and long‑term value. Agility stood out as the ideal platform to lead this evolution. Together, we will shape not just technology, but the future of Sri Lanka’s digital economy.”

“This transition represents both continuity and renewal for the Group,” Gunewardene said. “The Board conducted a rigorous process to identify a leader who truly understands our business and is capable of steering the organisation through its next phase of growth. Vasabha brings the right blend of experience, intuition, and peoplecentric leadership to build on the strong foundation already in place.”

At Agility Innovation, Bulathsinhala will have access to a multitalented, multidisciplined Board of Directors under Group Chairman Gunewardene, guiding Sri Lanka’s premier tech conglomerate which carries a legacy of 30 years.

The Group includes tech pioneers KBSL and N-able, two of the most recognisable names in the enterprise infrastructure and security space, that provide the foundation for the Group’s expertise in data centre management, cloud computing, cybersecurity, and unified communications.

Another key player is innovative software design house Just In Time (JIT), now backed by blockchain expertise from Coding Legends as well as Enterprise Business Intelligence (EBI) and GIS Solutions. These companies are well-known for their work in Artificial Intelligence (AI), analytics, Web3, Internet of Things (IoT), and spatial data technologies.

Yet another group heavyweight, Lankacom is Sri Lanka’s first telecom operator after liberalisation, leveraging multiple submarine cables and a 24/7 Network Management Centre to offer high-speed, reliable services.

Rounding off the Group’s capabilities is JIT Resourcing & Consultancy Services, providing global businesses access to skilled tech professionals in software development, cybersecurity, and data analytics, offering cost-effective, scalable staffing solutions.

Bulathsinhala said: “Agility Innovation is a true tech conglomerate shaping the future of digital transformation, partnering with organisations across the economy to enable scale and innovation. As Sri Lanka accelerates its digital journey, we are excited to play a meaningful role in building platforms, capabilities, and ecosystems that will drive long‑term national progress and sustainable growth.”

Bulathsinhala emphasised the importance of people. “Agility counts a strong, diverse portfolio of talent through the expertise of over 600 professionals – this is more than a number—it reflects the depth of our talent, the strength of our expertise, and the promise of our collective potential. I firmly believe we are uniquely positioned to deliver differentiated, end-to-end solutions as a single trusted partner, and I am excited by the opportunity ahead and the impact we can create in Sri Lanka’s ICT space.”

Agility Innovation does indeed bring together a powerful set of capabilities—from systems integration to blockchain solutions, high‑speed connectivity, and software services. But Bulathsinhala reiterates “what will truly define our future is not the breadth of what we do, but the strength of how we work together. By collaborating across the Group, sharing expertise openly, and fully harnessing our collective capabilities, we have a unique opportunity to create lasting value and achieve outcomes far greater than any one business could deliver alone – this is the ‘One Agility’ concept I firmly believe in.”

During his tenure as Group COO starting January 2025, an early priority was engaging with teams across the Group – both operational and customer facing – as key stakeholders.

“I believe our people are our greatest asset. I have ensured that I am open to listen and learn and, by working closely with teams across the Group, we have created a shared focus with an emphasis on delivering value to all our stakeholders,” Bulathsinhala said.

The leadership change signals consistency in the Group’s strategic direction, and further strengthens the Board’s commitment to core priorities such as operational excellence, innovation, customercentric growth, and responsible business practices.

With emphasis on a curated, smooth, and internally aligned transition, which is valued by investors and employees alike, Bulathsinhala’s appointment has been communicated to employees across all business units, with senior management briefings followed up with a Group Townhall in early January. The Agility Innovation Group has always prioritised maintaining transparency and internal alignment and this was a key focus throughout the transition process.

Gunewardene further reaffirmed the Board’s confidence in the leadership team. “We believe this transition reinforces the strength of our governance and succession planning. With a capable leadership team and a clear strategic roadmap, the Group is well positioned to navigate the opportunities and challenges ahead,” he said.

Sri Lanka’s digital transformation agenda has accelerated significantly over the past two years and is now one of the country’s central economic reform pillars. What is emerging is not just IT modernisation, but a comprehensive shift aimed at reshaping governance, financial inclusion, service delivery, and long‑term competitiveness. With a new CEO at the helm and an experienced leadership team in place, Agility Innovation is well set to complement and drive this shift as the Group embarks on its next growth phase with a renewed sense of purpose.

“Our mission is to build a future where technology serves as a catalyst for progress,” Bulathsinhala said.
