The US has taken up with Sri Lanka the reduction of trade barriers and wider access for American agricultural produce, pitching Montana-grown lentils, dry peas and chickpeas as a means of strengthening the country’s food security.
US Ambassador to Sri Lanka Eric Meyer said he accompanied visiting Montana Governor Greg Gianforte to a meeting with Trade, Commerce, Food Security and Cooperative Development Minister Wasantha Samarasinghe to discuss reducing trade barriers and expanding access for American products.
The talks covered how the three Montana-grown pulses could support food security in Sri Lanka, an area that falls within Samarasinghe’s portfolio, while opening new markets for US producers, Meyer said in a post on X.
