US Ambassador to India Sergi Gor said President Donald Trump had held a discussion with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi yesterday on the escalating situation in the Middle East, with both sides highlighting the importance of maintaining open shipping lanes through the Strait of Hormuz.
Taking to X, Gor said: “President Donald Trump just spoke with Prime Minister Modi. They discussed the ongoing situation in the Middle East, including the importance of keeping the Strait of Hormuz open”.
Separately, Prime Minister Modi confirmed the call, noting a shared emphasis on de-escalation and stability in the region.
“Received a call from President Trump and had a useful exchange of views on the situation in West Asia,” the Prime Minister said after the call. “India supports de-escalation and restoration of peace at the earliest. Ensuring Strait of Hormuz remains open, secure, and accessible is essential for the world. We agreed to stay in touch for efforts towards peace and stability.”
