Three candidates have been shortlisted for the Vice Chancellor post at the Sri Jayewardenepura University.
They are incumbent Vice Chancellor Senior Prof. Pathmalal M. Manage, J’apura University Faculty of Applied Sciences Dean Prof. Upul Subasinghe, and Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences Dean Prof. Shirantha Heenkenda.
Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chairman Senior Prof. Harindra Dissabandara, who also applied for the post as reported by the Daily FT yesterday, did not make it to the shortlist. There was speculation that he had indicated interest to continue as SEC Chairman in the event he was selected for the Vice Chancellor post. Contrary to our story, former SEC Chairman Prof. Lalith Samarakoon had not figured among applicants or taken part in the interview.
The three shortlisted names will be forwarded to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake for consideration and appointment.
Sri Jayewardenepura University is listed in the 1501+ band in the 2026 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings and the #1401+ range in the 2026 QS World University Rankings.
