Suranjith Wewita appointed new SLTDA Chairman

The Tourism Ministry has appointed Suranjith Wewita as the new Chairman of the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) with effect from yesterday. 

Wewita officially received his letter of appointment yesterday from Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism Minister Vijitha Herath.

A seasoned professional with extensive experience in the banking and tourism sectors, Wewita brings to the position a broad background in financial management, trade union leadership and tourism entrepreneurship.

During his long career at Seylan Bank, he held leadership responsibilities and gained extensive experience in corporate crisis management and deposit mobilisation. His professional record also includes significant contributions to financial and managerial affairs at the national level.

Wewita has been actively involved in the development of the tourism industry. He currently serves as a member of the Presidential Task Force for Tourism Development and as Secretary of the All Ceylon Tourism Service Providers Association.

Issuing a statement, the Tourism Ministry expressed confidence that Wewita’s leadership capabilities, financial expertise and commitment to the tourism sector would help steer the SLTDA, the country’s tourism regulatory body towards further progress and new achievements.

“The Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism Ministry warmly welcomes him to his new role and wishes him every success in his future endeavors,” it reads.

Meanwhile, the Ministry noted that Buddhika Hewawasam will continue in his role as Chairman of the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB).
