SriLankan Airlines yesterday issued a clarification over an incident concerning Flight UL 503 to London which was diverted to Vienna international airport in Austria due to a medical emergency.

The national carrier confirmed that on 1 May 2024, Flight UL 503, bound for London with 272 passengers, was diverted to Vienna due to a medical emergency involving a passenger who required urgent medical attention.

Subsequently, the flight experienced a delay in departure due to a technical issue, preventing it from reaching the Heathrow Airport before its scheduled closure at 22:00 hrs London time. Consequently, Flight UL 503 was rescheduled for departure the following day, with all passengers who had visa to Europe provided with accommodation in Vienna.

The flight resumed its journey on 2 May 2024, arriving in London at 21.30 hrs.

As a result of this delay, SriLankan Airlines regrettably had to cancel Flight UL 504 from London to Colombo on 1 May 2024, with affected passengers notified and those who had already checked in provided with hotel accommodation.

“We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused to our passengers. The safety and well-being of our passengers are paramount, and we deeply appreciate their understanding and cooperation,” the national carrier said in its statement.
