Sri Lanka has been ranked the world’s fastest-growing wellness travel destination for 2026, recording a 100% increase in global demand, according to the latest “State of Retreats 2026” report by BookRetreats.com, highlighted by Time Out Asia.
The report points to a marked shift in global travel preferences, with an increasing number of travellers seeking health, mindfulness and rejuvenation-focused experiences instead of conventional leisure holidays.
According to the survey, conducted among 1,040 travellers in the United States, 49% plan to spend on wellness retreats in 2026, making them a higher priority than spa treatments, dietary supplements and gym memberships.
The findings highlights Sri Lanka’s growing appeal as a wellness tourism destination, positioning the country to capitalise on rising global demand for holistic travel experiences.
