The Cabinet of Ministers on Monday approved key proposals to enhance Sri Lanka’s engagement with the International Solar Alliance (ISA), aiming to boost the country’s renewable energy sector.
The ISA, which supports member countries in advancing solar power initiatives, currently has 75 member nations, including Sri Lanka — with 55 States having ratified the Partnership Framework Agreement.

Additionally, the Cabinet of Ministers approved establishing a Solar Technology Application Resource Centre (STAR-C) in Sri Lanka, to strengthen capacity building efforts in the renewable energy sector.
The Cabinet has also approved signing a Country Partnership Framework Agreement with the ISA, which is expected to facilitate policy development, access to funding, global networking opportunities, and knowledge sharing in the solar energy industry.
The proposal to this effect, submitted by Power Minister Eng. Kumara Jayakody was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
