Sri Lanka explores renewable energy initiatives with international financial institutions

Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera spearheaded a high-level discussion with the visiting South Asia Regional Director of the International Finance Corporation (IFC) to explore avenues for advancing renewable energy projects and electricity sector reforms in Sri Lanka. 

The meeting, held at the Ministry of Power and Energy, delved into crucial topics including financial instruments, policy loans, and interconnectivity of power grids.

Key points of discussion during the meeting included; financial instruments and assistance for renewable energy projects, electricity sector reforms, structuring new renewable energy projects for development, donor coordination forum and power grid interconnectivity.

The meeting brought together key stakeholders including Country Managers from the World Bank and IFC in Sri Lanka, along with officials from the Power and Energy Ministry, World Bank, and IFC.
