Sri Lanka Tourism announced that dedicated teams are operating around the clock to assist tourists and industry stakeholders affected by the recent severe weather conditions.
In a statement issued on Saturday, it assured that immediate care and support are being prioritised to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all visitors currently in the country.
Tourists and tourism partners have been urged to remain vigilant about changing weather conditions and to strictly follow Government-issued safety guidelines.
Sri Lanka Tourism cautioned that several regions continue to face accessibility challenges due to blocked roads and disrupted transport networks.
In response to the difficulties faced by travellers, the Government has introduced several relief measures. These include free visa extensions for tourists whose visas have expired as a result of weather-related disruptions. Airlines have also been requested to offer full waivers on cancellation and date change fees, along with flexible rebooking policies. In addition, a simplified verification process has been introduced, under which a traveller’s own declaration of being affected by the weather will be sufficient to qualify for these concessions.
Sri Lanka Tourism also acknowledged that many industry stakeholders, including hotels, travel agencies, and other service providers, may have experienced operational challenges or damage due to the adverse weather.
Relief efforts are being coordinated, and the 24-hour hotline remains active to provide guidance, support, and rapid response where needed.
Visitors and industry partners are encouraged to contact the Sri Lanka Tourism hotline via 1912 for any urgent assistance. It added that while certain regions are still in recovery, the majority of tourism destinations remain unaffected and continue to welcome travellers.
Sri Lanka Tourism reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that every visitor’s experience remains safe, supported, and memorable during this challenging period and said timely updates will continue to be provided.
