Softlogic Life to acquire 60% stake in Bangladesh insurer for $ 1.9 m

Softlogic Life Insurance PLC has signed a Share Purchase Agreement to acquire a 60% stake in Bangladesh-based Diamond Life Insurance Company Ltd., for approximately $ 1.9 million, marking the company’s entry into the Bangladeshi life insurance market.

Announcing the deal, Softlogic Life Insurance PLC Chairman Ashok Pathirage said the acquisition is aligned with the company’s regional expansion strategy and represents a strategic move into one of South Asia’s largest insurance markets.

Diamond Life Insurance Company Ltd., is a licenced life insurer in Bangladesh. Upon completion of the transaction, Softlogic Life will hold a controlling interest in the company.

The proposed investment reflects Softlogic Life’s efforts to expand its footprint beyond Sri Lanka and diversify its presence across the region’s insurance sector.

The company said further disclosures will be made upon completion of the transaction.

Softlogic Life shares closed yesterday up Rs. 2.50 at Rs. 94.
