SriLankan Airlines Chairman Sarath Ganegoda has tendered his resignation, marking a significant change in the leadership of the national carrier at a time when the aviation sector is navigating mounting global and operational challenges.

The airline announced yesterday that Ganegoda stepped down from the Boards of both SriLankan Airlines and SriLankan Catering with effect from 31 March 2026. Director Rohan Goonetilleke has also resigned from both Boards.

Until a permanent appointment is made by the Treasury, Dimal Arandara will function as Acting Chairman, ensuring continuity in oversight during the transition period. Arandara is a former Chairman of Sri Lanka Telecom.

The airline’s Board and management acknowledged the contributions made by Ganegoda and Goonetilleke during their tenure, though no reasons were disclosed for the resignations.

The current Board of SriLankan Airlines will now comprise Acting Chairman Arandara, alongside Flt./Lt. (Retd.) Sugath Rajapakse, Vipula Gunatilleka, Dr. Harsha Cabral, PC, Dumith Fernando and Senarath Liyanage.

Meanwhile, the Board of SriLankan Catering will continue under a similar structure, also chaired in an acting capacity by Arandara, alongside Rajapakse, Gunatilleka, Cabral, and Fernando.
