Sampath Bank yesterday announced the appointment of Sanjaya Dias Pujitha Gunawardana as the Managing Director-Designate (MDD) from 1 July 2025.
He will assume office as Managing Director from 25 September when the incumbent Ayodhya Iddawela Perera completes her term of office. She will avail her leave from 1 July 2025.
Gunawardana is the current Chief Strategy Officer (Senior Deputy General Manager) of Sampath Bank.
A career banker, Gunawardana is a veteran in the industry, having served Sampath Bank for over 35 years. He has held many senior positions across a spectrum of banking functions in the areas of strategic planning, retail banking, and IT.
Sampath Bank expressed its confidence that Gunawardana’s vision, unwavering commitment, and strong value-driven leadership will immensely benefit the bank and all its stakeholders.
The bank also announced the appointment of Rahubadde Kankanamge Deepal de Silva as the Chief Operating Officer (COO) from 1 July 2025.
He is at present the Senior Deputy General Manager – Operations and Branch Banking and has over 35 years of extensive experience across all facets of banking, including more than a decade in corporate and senior management roles.
de Silva has been a key driver of the bank’s customer centricity and operational efficiency. He will undoubtedly deliver even greater benefits in his new role as COO, Sampath Bank added.
