Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa yesterday in Parliament said the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) would denounce the recent strike on Iran and called on the Government to formally issue a similar condemnation.
Speaking in Parliament, Premadasa said the administration led by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake should not refrain from criticising what he described as an act of aggression that contravenes international law, including Articles 2(4) and 2(7) of the United Nations Charter.
He proposed that the House collectively adopt a position condemning the attack, characterising it as a violation against a sovereign state. He added that the Government should make its stance clear and not hesitate to speak out.
Premadasa further stated that Sri Lanka should also denounce Iran’s retaliatory strikes directed at the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar and Bahrain.
