right.

He said three preeminent economic experts in his Party namely MPs Harsha de Silva, Kabir Hashim and Eran Wickramaratne are currently formulating a constructive, progressive solution to the major problems the country is facing.

“We are speaking with partners and friends to ensure that we resolve the financial crisis  through the participation of  international political and monetary institutions,” Premadasa told Parliament.

He assured that this would be done without imposing austerity on the masses.

“We will in no way attempt to impose hardship on the people of this country who are already in dire straits due to the malpractice and maladministration of this corrupt Government,” he said.

Premadasa said that there is desperation, darkness, and loss of hope in the eyes of the people and there is deep seated resentment brought on by the pre-set system of governance.

He said that there is a mass exodus of youth from the country, but the current administration has absolutely no idea as to how to counter that situation.

“People are suffering due to incompetency and inefficiency of the Government. It was the very first step taken by the Government to cut taxes and give tax rebates that led to the economic misery of this country,” he said.

Premadasa said that there is hope amidst the darkness and the country can move forward with unity, steadfastness, resolve and a visionary approach.

“We can unite under a progressive banner, a modern out of the box approach. The time has come for everyone to unite,” he said.
