SLPA Chair reviews Colombo Port ops amid Mideast tensions

SLPA Chairman Dr. Parakrama Dissanayake chairs a meeting with SLPA officials, terminal operators, and representatives of shipping lines to review Port of Colombo operations

Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) Chairman Dr. Parakrama Dissanayake convened a special meeting with senior port officials, terminal operators, and representatives of global shipping lines to review measures to ensure uninterrupted operations at the Port of Colombo amid developments in the Middle East.

The discussion brought together the authority’s top management with shipping industry stakeholders, including terminal operators, shipping agents, and representatives of major international shipping lines operating through Colombo.

The meeting focused on maintaining efficient port operations and coordinating responses in the event of disruptions to global shipping routes arising from the situation in the Middle East.

Among those present were SLPA Vice Chairman Eng. Herath M.P. Jayawardhana, Managing Director Eng. Ganaka Hemachandra, Additional Managing Director – Operations Prabath J. Malavige, Additional Managing Director – Administration and HR Nalin Aponso, Additional Managing Director – Technical J.A. Chandrarathne, Director – Logistics G. Zavia Miskin, Director – Marketing and Business Development H.J.K.U. Kumara, and Harbour Master Capt. K.M. Nirmal P. Silva.

Representatives of major terminal operators also attended the meeting, including South Asia Gateway Terminals (SAGT) Chief Financial Officer Janith Gunasiri, Colombo International Container Terminals Chief Executive Officer Jack Huang, and Colombo West International Terminal Chief Executive Officer Harikrishnan Sundaram.

Officials from Hambantota International Port Group (HIPG), including Chief Executive Officer Wilson Qu and Deputy General Manager – Commercial and Marketing Bindu Ranasinghe, were also present.

The meeting was also attended by representatives of the Ceylon Association of Shipping Agents (CASA), including Chairman Shano Sabar and representative Janesh Rathanadasa, as well as local agents representing major global shipping lines including MSC, Unifeeder, Sea Consortium, CMA CGM, Evergreen, COSCO, Hapag-Lloyd, and Maersk.
