SLAITO seeks AG’s advice on Sri Lanka Tourism hiring private attorneys

As the apex body for inbound tourism, Sri Lanka Association of Inbound Tour Operators (SLAITO) has sought the Attorney General’s (AG) opinion on Sri Lanka Tourism hiring private attorneys.

SLAITO which is recognised by the Sri Lanka Tourism Act is represented on the Boards of Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA), Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB), Sri Lanka Convention Bureau (SLCB) and Sri Lanka Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management (SLITHM).

“We wish to bring to your notice that in certain instances, there are Board papers requesting approval for the authorisation of the hiring of private attorneys for various legal issues pertaining to SLTDA and SLTPB Boards and we would greatly appreciate your feedback whether this is possible,” SLAITO has requested the AG in writing.

SLAITO was established to promote and foster the rapid and long-term growth in Sri Lanka by providing and maintaining a high standard of excellence in the service provided for the comfort and convenience of the tourists in all its aspects.

The membership of SLAITO consists of the travel agents who handle foreign tourists in Sri Lanka on a brochure program, foreign travel organisations in the back-to-back group tour and charter business who are principles of the local members and charter airlines who bring back-to-back group tours to Sri Lanka.

At present SLAITO consists of 176 fully fledged members and 40 associate members.
