SJB will defeat both red and green elephants at polls: Marikkar 

• Says not even JVP will be able to shield President from mass protests led by SJB if polls are delayed
• Accuses JVP of being afraid of facing elections as it has no voter base 
• Blames JVP for alleged acts of corruption and fraud carried out by Rajapaksa clan 
• Claims only SJB has plan to revive and rebuild the country 

Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP S.M. Marikkar said the party will defeat both the United National Party (UNP) and the National People’s Power (NPP) at an upcoming election. 

“The President has called for a party leaders meeting claiming he wants to discuss possible solutions for the country and its future. But in reality, he merely wants to discuss the possibility of postponing elections. We displayed our strength as a party recently. We can bring hundreds and thousands out onto the streets but we are not doing that out of concern for the country and not out of fear of Ranil Wickremesinghe,” he said. 

“There is nothing we can do about Wickremesinghe destroying his own party and now being unable to find organisers for electoral seats. However, if he attempts various constitutional tactics to delay polls we will bring people onto the roads. Not even the red elephants that are shielding you will be able to save you then,” he said referring to the NPP. 

Marikkar claimed the UNP and the NPP are in fear of facing polls as the UNP does not have candidates to field while the NPP does not have the numbers. 

“Though the red elephants boast they will form the next Government they are afraid to face elections. They are worried that their actual voter base will be revealed before a parliamentary election,” he said. 

“Only the red elephants will remain to protect Wickremesinghe as even the Pohottuwa troupe will avoid him. They are already carrying on a farce by praising him,” the MP added. 

Marikkar warned the SJB will hold mass protests unless polls are held in January 2023. Claiming the SJB has a plan to rebuild Sri Lanka and revive the economy, Marikkar said the NPP is incapable of doing the same. 

“First they could not work in the Government of President Chandrika Kumaratunge. Then after gaining the power of the Tissamaharama Pradeshiya Sabha they were even incapable of maintaining it and carrying out the work,” he said while also blaming the NPP for facilitating the frauds committed by the Rajapaksa clan. 

“However will a group like this restructure debt or rebuild this country?” he asked. 

The MP said the SJB will defeat both the NPP and the UNP at an upcoming election.
