SJB gets update on state of economy from CBSL and Treasury chiefs

The main Opposition the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) yesterday got an update on the state of the economy from the Central Bank Governor Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe and Treasury Secretary Mahinda Siriwardena.

SJB Leader Sajith Premadasa and its economist trio Dr. Harsha de Silva, Kabir Hashim and Eran Wickramaratne participated at the meeting.  

Following the meeting SJB Leader Sajith Premadasa tweeted: “We have always offered our unstinting support to overcome this crisis. It’s good to finally have a productive meeting with CB Governor & Treasury Secretary. It is a given that we will take on any responsibility as long as it does not involve working with any crisis instigators.”

Post the 3-hour meeting SJB Treasurer and MP Dr. Harsha de Silva in his tweet said: “Situation beyond grave. Absolutely no funds; neither dollars nor rupees. Going to be unenviable gigantic challenge for anyone to save #SriLanka. #GotaGottaGo.”

Notwithstanding the enormity of the challenge, Harsha said in another tweet that he is not afraid of any challenge. “Also, I have nothing more to offer but sincerity, transparency, honesty and technical knowledge of the subject,” he said.

“The truth is bitter. But this is the truth. We WILL FIND A WAY OUT. All citizens of #SriLanka must rally together. Think of country before self. Let us get together put the shoulder to the wheel and get out of this mess the Rajapaksa’s got us in to. But first #GotaGottaGo,” Dr. de Silva added.
