Rupee fall persists; US$ exchange rate crosses Rs. 200 mark

The selling rate of the US Dollar yesterday was quoted at Rs. 200.4652, an increase from Rs. 199.40 on Monday.

In the first quarter, the Rupee sharply depreciated by 4.7%, largely influenced by the behaviour in March owing to the impact of COVID-19 on the economy and reserves.

Analysts said recent restrictions on outward remittances as well as the Government’s appeal for inward remittances reflect the pressure on the Rupee apart from external shocks the country is facing due to the new coronavirus pandemic.
