Ruling NPP leads in early LG poll results

The ruling National People’s Power (NPP) was leading in LG polls as per early results released by the Election Commision last night.

Wins included in Hikkaduwa Urban Council, Wattegama Urban Council, Balangoda Urban Council, Ambalangoda Urban Council, Hambantota Municipal Council and Tangalle Urban Council.

NPP however lost in Haputale Urban Council, which was secured by an Independent Group, while the Manthai Pradeshiya Sabha of the Mullaitivu District was won by the Ilankai Tamil Arasu Kachchi (ITAK). 

In several Councils the Opposition collectively had more members.
