Admiral Sirimevan Sarathchandra Ranasinghe (Rtd.)
Admiral Sirimevan Sarathchandra Ranasinghe (Rtd.) assumed duties yesterday as the Chairman of Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA). He was the Commander of the Navy from October 2017 to December 2018.
Admiral Ranasinghe also served as the Secretary to Ministry of Ports and Shipping and Southern Development in 2019.
He is an Anti-Submarine Warfare Specialist trained at INS Vendurutthy, Kochi. He followed his Defence Services Staff Course at Wellington, India, War Course in NDU, Islamabad, Pakistan and National Defence Course at National Defence College in New Delhi, India.
Admiral Sirimevan Ranasinghe was born in Anuradhapura, and first joined Sri Lanka Navy in 1982. He had his basic training at Naval and Maritime Academy, Trincomalee and at Britannia Royal Naval College, Dartmouth, England (1984-1985).
He obtained his MSc in Defence and Strategic Studies (First Class) from the University of Madras in 2000, MSc in War Studies and Defence Management (Second Upper) from National Defence University, Islamabad and MPhil in Defence and Strategic Studies (First Class) from the University of Madras in 2013.
He is a recipient of the ‘Weera Wickrama Vibhushanaya’, ‘Rana Wikrama Padakkama’ for gallantry and ‘Wishishta Sewa Vibhushana’ and ‘Uttama Sewa Padakkama’ for his unblemished service. He has been commended by the Commander of the Navy for outstanding performance of duty and exceptional contributions to naval service.
