Reserves dip marginally in Jan. to $ 6.82 b

Gross official reserves amounted to $ 6.82 billion as at end-January, down a marginal 0.15% from a month ago, while gold reserves increased 26% to $ 109 million.

According to data released by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL), foreign currency reserves amounted to $ 6.68 billion, with gold assets at $ 109 million, reserves with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) at $ 4 million, and Special Drawing Rights at $ 32 million.

Gross official reserves were down slightly from $ 6.83 billion as of end-December 2025 when gold reserves stood at $ 86 million and IMF Special Drawing Rights at $ 1 million. Reserves with the IMF were $ 4 million.

The short-term 12-month outflow of reserves is estimated at $ 3.92 billion.
