Western Province Governor and Presidential Special Envoy for Foreign Investment Hanif Yusoof went live on Channel News Asia (CNA) from Singapore, where he spoke on Sri Lanka’s economic recovery and the role of Port City Colombo as a key driver of the country’s next phase of growth.
During the interview, the Special Envoy addressed a range of questions from CNA, including Sri Lanka’s post-crisis economic stabilisation, investor confidence following recent reforms, and the strategic rationale behind Port City Colombo as South Asia’s largest privately led, policy-enabled development.
Responding to questions on the economic promise of Port City Colombo, the Yusoof said that the project is designed as an export-oriented, services-led economic platform, anchored in private capital and governed by a clear, rules-based regulatory framework. He highlighted that Port City is not merely a real estate development, but a catalyst for high-value sectors such as financial services, IT and digital exports, professional services, logistics, and regional headquarters operations.
Addressing Sri Lanka’s recent political and economic transitions, he noted that the country’s recovery has been underpinned by institutional reform and fiscal discipline, ensuring continuity of major projects and policy direction beyond political cycles.
Yusoof also positioned Sri Lanka as a natural gateway to South Asia, citing the region’s rapid growth, Sri Lanka’s strategic location along major maritime routes, strong connectivity, and the ability for investors to base themselves in a stable, liveable environment while serving regional markets.
Concluding the interview, the Yusoof reiterated that Sri Lanka has moved decisively from crisis management to long-term economic transformation, and that Port City Colombo represents a credible, investor-ready proposition for global capital seeking growth, stability, and quality of life in one location.
