President Anura Kumara Dissanayake yesterday directed officials of the Inland Revenue Department (IRD) to accelerate key reforms aimed at boosting tax revenue, strengthening compliance, and recovering arrears, while expediting the rollout of a national e-invoicing system.
During a high-level discussion at the Presidential Secretariat, progress of the IRD in 2026 was reviewed alongside plans for institutional restructuring and digitalisation. The President also stressed that the e-invoicing initiative must be completed within the stipulated timeframe.
Extensive discussions were also held on the institutional restructuring and digitalisation processes required within the Department to achieve these objectives.
Finance and Planning Deputy Minister Dr. Anil Jayantha Fernando, Economic Development Deputy Minister Nishantha Jayaweera, Secretary to the President Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake, IRD Commissioner General R.P.H. Fernando and several senior officials of the Department were also present at the meeting.
