Deputy Inspector General of Traffic and Road Safety D.P.G.J. Senadeera yesterday said Police officers have been stationed at fuel stations to manage traffic following the reintroduction of the QR code system for fuel distribution.
Speaking to the media, Senadeera said unnecessary public panic had resulted in congestion and long queues at fuel stations across the country. In response, Police officers have been deployed at major fuel outlets to maintain order and ease traffic flow.
“The public should not panic. Once the QR code system is in place, each category of vehicle will receive the required quantity of fuel. The crowds we are seeing at fuel stations are largely due to unnecessary panic. Police officers have been deployed to maintain order and manage traffic at these locations,” he said.
Senadeera added that if motorists remain calm, the situation can be managed without disruption. He said the QR system has been introduced to ensure orderly and efficient distribution of fuel.
“There is no need to queue for more than what is required. People will be able to obtain fuel at any filling station according to the allocations. Our traffic and Police officers are working to minimise congestion and manage the situation,” he said.
