A two-day debate on the prevailing security situation in the country will begin in Parliament today. The debate will continue till Wednesday.

Party leaders, who met yesterday under the patronage of Speaker Karu Jayasuriya, decided to hold the debate given the urgency of the situation.

The Speaker urged MPs to use the time allocated to them during the debate to come forward with suggestions on the role Parliament can play at a crucial time in the country, and to desist from slandering and berating each other for the prevailing situation. Parliament will meet at 1 p.m. today.
