Parliament passed a total of 26 Government Bills during the year 2025, Parliament Secretariat said yesterday.
The legislation was enacted during the First Session of the Tenth Parliament, covering the period from 1 January to 31 December 2025. The Acts span fiscal policy, labour, governance, regulatory reform, and social protection.
Among the key enactments were amendments to major revenue laws, including the Inland Revenue Act, Value Added Tax Act, Social Security Contribution Levy Act, and the Betting and Gaming Levy Act. Two Appropriation Acts were also passed during the year, in March and December.
Labour-related legislation included the National Minimum Wage of Workers Act and two Acts relating to the Budgetary Relief Allowance of Workers, all enacted in July. Parliament also approved amendments to the Companies Act, Bills of Exchange Act, and the Sri Lanka Electricity Act.
Several governance and regulatory measures were enacted, including the Proceeds of Crime Act, the Gambling Regulatory Authority Act, the repeal of the Presidents’ Entitlements Act, and amendments to the National Audit Act and Personal Data Protection Act.
In addition, Parliament passed legislation relating to national institutions and sectoral oversight, including the National Building Research Institute Act, amendments to the Samurdhi Act, Rubber Control Act, and the Strategic Development Projects (Amendment) Act.
