Parliament informs CID to allow Rishad to attend sittings

Sergeant-at-Arms Narendra Fernando has informed the Director of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in writing to take the necessary steps for Wanni District MP Rishad Bathiudeen to attend Parliament sittings next week, if he so requests.

MP Bathiudeen is being detained and questioned by the CID but is entitled to attend Parliament on sitting days.

Fernando informed the CID to enable the detained MP to attend sittings on the instructions of Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena.

As the sittings are scheduled to be held on 4 May and 5 from 10 a.m., the CID Director has been informed to bring the MP to Parliament premises by 9:30 a.m.

Fernando stated that the MP should be brought to Parliament in line with the instructions and recommendations given by the health authorities due to the COVID-19 situation.
