Parliament Committee reviews Sri Lanka Electricity (Amendment) Bill ahead of final approval

The Sectoral Oversight Committee on Infrastructure and Strategic Development convened recently to review the proposed Sri Lanka Electricity (Amendment) Bill.

The meeting Chaired by MP S.M. Marikkar brought together key officials from the Energy Ministry, Attorney General’s Department and the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB). 

During the session several proposals and recommendations submitted by the electricity regulator, Public Utilities Commission (PUCSL) regarding the amendment of this Bill was discussed and agreement was reached on several matters.

The Attorney General’s Department also expressed its views on the draft Bill before the Committee and it was decided to print the draft Bill in all three languages along with the agreed amendments and submit it for approval by the committee on 17 July 2025 and meet again on the same day.

MPs Kabir Hashim, Nalin Bandara Jayamaha, Ajith P. Perera, Asitha Niroshana Egoda Withana, Attorney-at-Law Geetha Herath and Ravindra Bandara also participated in this committee meeting.
