Oman has expressed interest in encouraging Sri Lankan businesses to explore investment opportunities in the country, as Colombo and Muscat seek to further strengthen their longstanding economic relationship.
The matter was discussed at a meeting held yesterday between Omani Ambassador to Sri Lanka Ahmed Ali Said Alrashidi, Oman’s Adviser for Foreign Trade and International Cooperation Pankej Khimji, and Finance and Planning Deputy Minister Dr. Anil Jayantha Fernando at the Finance Ministry.
The discussions focused on further strengthening the longstanding friendship between Sri Lanka and Oman, with particular attention to investment opportunities and the growing confidence of international investors in Sri Lanka.
Ambassador Al Rashidi commended the economic program being pursued by the current Government and discussed the importance of directing Sri Lankan business interests towards investment opportunities available in Sri Lanka.
Khimji noted that Sri Lankan businessmen have shown a particular inclination towards agriculture-related investments.
Responding to the observations, Dr. Fernando said the financial discipline and transparency maintained by the Government were contributing to greater investor confidence and encouraging international investors to consider Sri Lanka as an investment destination.
The discussions come as Sri Lanka seeks to attract greater foreign direct investment and broaden investment activity across productive sectors.
