Oil surges past $ 119 amid escalating Middle East conflict

Benchmark Brent crude climbed above $ 119 a barrel yesterday, as markets reacted to a sharp escalation in Middle East tensions following Iranian strikes on regional energy infrastructure in response to Israel’s attack on the South 

Pars gas field.

Brent futures were trading at $ 113.40 a barrel by 12:37 GMT, up $ 6.02 or 5.6% on the day. Prices had earlier risen by more than $ 11 during trading to reach an intraday high of $ 119.13, approaching levels last seen three and a half years ago on 9 March.
