Former Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal claims that the depreciation of the rupee in 2018 was larger than that experienced during the entirety of nine years between 2006 and 2014.

In a tweet (https://twitter.com/an_cabraal/status/1079944425583697920?s=08), Cabraal put 2018’s depreciation at Rs. 31.85 and Rs. 28.93 during 2006-2014.

In a previous tweet, Cabraal also challenged Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweera as to whether he could give an assurance that the Sri Lanka Rupee will not reach Rs. 200 per USD by 28 February 2019.
