New US envoy sworn in

US new Sri Lankan envoy Julie Chung was sworn in yesterday by Deputy Secretary of State Wendy R.

Sherman said that Chung is a State Department career personality and her exceptional leadership makes her the perfect choice to represent the American people and advance the US-Sri Lanka partnership. Sherman said she looks forward to continuing “our work together”.

Chung’s previous posting was as the Acting Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs and she is replacing Alaina B. Teplitz as Ambassador to Sri Lanka. Chung has served in a variety of roles including as Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary and serving for roles in Japan, Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, Colombia, and Iraq.
