The Cabinet of Ministers at their meeting on Monday approved implementing the National Cyber Protection Strategy 2025-2029, a key initiative aimed at strengthening the country’s civilian cyber-security framework over the next five years.

Announcing the decision at the weekly post-Cabinet meeting media briefing, Cabinet Spokesman and Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said the strategy is supported by a grant through the World Bank.

He said the strategy, developed by the Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Readiness Team (CERT) with technical support from the World Bank builds on the country’s first Cyber Security Roadmap introduced in 2018 and implemented from 2019 to 2023.

“The new strategy focuses on critical areas such as upgrading the legal and regulatory framework, enhancing cyber security awareness, improving readiness, strengthening response capabilities and boosting cooperation,” he added.

The proposal to this effect submitted by President Anura Kumara Disanayake in his capacity as the Digital Economy Minister was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
