JVP General Secretary Tilvin Silva
Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) General Secretary Tilvin Silva yesterday said that the ruling party— the National People’s Power (NPP)—intends to take control of over 250 local councils where it emerged as the leading party.
Addressing the media following the Local Government (LG) polls, he described the outcome as a landmark victory for the NPP, asserting that the results reflected a strong mandate for change.
“The NPP as a single party has the biggest victory. People have placed trust in us. Our plan is to end corruption and have a clean administration,” he added.
Silvas noted that the NPP’s governance model, rooted in transparency and accountability, would now extend from the national level down to the village level.
He said the party was committed to replicating its national reform agenda within local authorities across the country.
Silva made it clear that the party had no intention of forming alliances with traditional political parties such as the main Opposition Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), United National Party (UNP), or the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), which he said were rejected by the public.
