Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi yesterday said he was pleased to welcome Sri Lankan Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya in New Delhi, where the two leaders held wide-ranging discussions on strengthening bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors.

In a post on X, Modi noted their talks focused on education, women’s empowerment, innovation, development cooperation and the welfare of fishermen, underscoring the depth and diversity of the partnership between the two nations.

“As close neighbours, our cooperation holds immense importance for the prosperity of our two peoples as well as the shared region,” Modi added.

Dr. Amarasuriya is currently in New Delhi for a series of high-level meetings aimed at advancing collaboration in social and economic sectors, as both countries seek to further strengthen their longstanding partnership in the Indian Ocean region. It is her maiden official visit to India since assuming office.
