  • BOI approached company over proposed Metro Bus Service Station on subsidiary’s property
  • Company says it has not consented to release, occupation or acquisition of land
  • Boundary fencing and gates removed in unauthorised entry on 27 Sept.
  • Police complaint lodged; company seeking legal advice and engaging authorities

Millennium Housing Developers PLC said on Friday its wholly owned subsidiary Millennium Housing Ltd., (MHL) had not consented to the use of its land in Athurugiriya for a proposed Metro Bus Service Station after an unauthorised entry onto the property in which portions of the boundary fencing and gates were removed.

The company said it had received correspondence from the Board of Investment of Sri Lanka (BOI) dated 20 August and 21 September regarding a request made in connection with the proposed bus station on the property, located at No. 23, Kaduwela Road, Oruwala, Athurugiriya.

The company said it had not consented to the release, occupation, acquisition, or use of the property for the project. MHL has retained the land as an asset, earmarked for a future development project in line with the company’s business plans.

On 27 September, the company became aware of an unauthorised entry onto the property and the removal of portions of the boundary fencing and gates, allegedly in connection with the proposed bus station. The company said it had not authorised anyone to enter the property, remove its boundary structures, or begin any work on the land.

The company has lodged an initial complaint with the Athurugiriya Police and is taking legal and administrative steps to protect its and MHL’s rights to the property. It said MHL remains the lawful owner of the land and has not transferred, surrendered, or otherwise consented to its release or occupation.

The company said that any proposed acquisition, occupation, or use of privately owned land must be undertaken through the appropriate legal and statutory process, while respecting the company’s proprietary rights and the interests of its shareholders. It is obtaining legal advice and engaging with the relevant authorities.

The Government launched an expanded Metro Bus Service on 29 September, with 104 new buses operating on seven routes centred on Colombo, aimed at easing traffic congestion and offering a more comfortable, safer public transport service.

The service, run by Lanka Metro Transit (LMT), added five routes to the two already in operation, and was launched under the patronage of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake. The routes include CM02, linking Millennium City with Colombo Fort, and CM05, linking Battaramulla and Ekala. LMT, introduced in April 2026 under the ‘Clean Sri Lanka’ program, operates as a subsidiary of the Sri Lanka Transport Board, and officials have announced plans to extend the service to Jaffna, Kandy, and Galle.
